After the 2nd stage at the Waste Management, we got on the bus where it would take us back to the Tioga Fairgrounds. When we got back to the fairgrounds, a short parc expose would allow us to check out the cars before the first Super Special. The Super Special is normally $5 admission but this was included with our VIP passes. There was also a separate seating section for pass holders that allowed VIPs to mingle with the car drivers and co-drivers as they lined up to stage. The stage was laid out very similar to last year’s Super Special but having removed an obstacle so the cars could run even faster this year. Running in reverse order, the Super Special began with the “slower” cars first and worked its way up to the leader of the day, the infamous Block/Gelsamino duo.

The entire Friday night super special stage gallery can be found here:

After the Super Special we ran into some competitors at the local DIY carwash.

Back at the campsite we expected our site to be torn apart by the bears. Except, when we got to our site, instead of bears, the campsite was infested with noisy campers blasting bad 90’s alternative music and lighting off fireworks…we knew it was going to be a long night.

Excellent reporting as always, Luke. Surprised there wasn’t more talk of mexican food this time out! :P

Great shots as usual. Glad to not hear of any DSLRs being harmed in the making of this report.
